Recently, we caught up with the organizers to hear more about what ticket holders can expect from the evening.

What sets this show apart from others?

This show features all local talent. Dan Allaire is headlining Yuk Yuks the following week and has showcased for Just for Laughs. Mark Vincent was recently named performing artist of the year and recently recorded the Comedy Album Am I a Millienial.

Can you tell us more about the cause?

With deep roots in the community, St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre (SJCCC) can trace their roots back to 1897 with the founding of the Hotel Dieu Hospital founded by the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph (RHSJ) and has been serving our community under the St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre since 2004.

In May 2023, SJCCC embarked on the next stage of their journey with the beginning of construction of their new rehabilitation space. This 2400 sq ft, modern physical therapy space is being built to bring people together safely. This new space will feature state-of-the-art equipment and large windows for natural light and provide innovative solutions to help individuals at every level through their rehabilitation journey. This space will act as a hub for motivation, where patients can interact with one another, to encourage and inspire each other as they strengthen and prepare for their return home.

The Stronger Together campaign is set to raise $680,000 over the next three years to bring this dream to reality adding to the services currently offered by SJCCC. In 2022, 341 community members were admitted to SJCCC’s inpatient Rehabilitation program which currently houses 58 beds where patients rehabilitate from two weeks up to 90 days, working toward their return home and back to the community. Through the Stronger Together campaign, will allow SJCCC to elevate its programs and bring a new modern space to York Street.

Event organizer and comedian Dan Allaire was keen to support SJCCC thanks to his personal experience with both his grandmother and his wife’s grandmother having spend their final years at the Centre, so he has seen firsthand the incredible role SJCCC plays in the community. His daughter Janie now works as a Personal Support Worker at SJCCC and he counts himself lucky to know many staff and administration personally.
